We had nice visits and barbecues on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. But the big day was Sunday, because Nancy and I had Shelby all to ourselves. We started off with a big breakfast, and Shelby showed us that she's a big girl and can feed herself!
Then she read a book while Poppop and Nana packed up for a trip to the park.
We went to Vasona Park in nearby Los Gatos. They have a beautiful lake and a playground, and also the the Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad. Shelby has been on several plane rides, but a snorting steam engine, screeching whistle, and dinging bell made an exciting initiation to riding the rails.
Next up was a ride on the 100 year old W.E. Mason Carousel. We were a little worried that the big horses and loud music would scare her, but she loved it from the start. Our only problem was getting her off the carousel after 3 rides.
After the park, Shelby had with lunch with us at a grown up restaurant, took a nap, and visited the neighborhood pool club for some backstroke lessons. Then she had another relaxing read.
By the time Shelby's daddy and mommy got back from the races, Poppop and Nana were ready for a nap of their own. It was exhausting, but a perfect day. I don't know who came up with the slogan, Terrible Twos, but Shelby is showing no signs of terribleness... yet.
